Finally an AS3 Version!

Written by Aaron Clinger on December 3rd, 2008

After a lot of work we’re happy to announce the first public release of CASA Lib for ActionScript 3.0. CASA Lib AS3 has already been battle tested on numerous high profile AS3 sites and we think it’s ready for a public release.

CASA Lib for AS3 isn’t a direct port of the AS2 version. Adobe’s release of AS3 solved many of the problems that CASA Lib AS2 was trying to fix, but we still feel there is plenty of room for improvement.

Here are a few of our favorite things in CASA Lib AS3:

  • Standardized external load API
  • Easily remove listeners with IRemovableEventDispatcher
  • destroy methods make garbage collection easy
  • Large group of utility classes for common manipulations

We will be elaborating further the power of CASA Lib in future blog posts.

As with any new release there will be bugs that emerge, but with your help we promise to release updates often to keep CASA Lib as stable as possible.

Thank you, I’ve been waiting for this for what seems like years (ever since I dropped doing AS2 development). Very much appreciated!

Awesome library!  I have only one suggestion and that is to add a trim function to the string utils.

Hi Robert, CASA Lib actually does have trim functions. There was a small mistake in the HTML documentation that prevented the methods from appearing. Check out the updated documentation here:

Hi any tutorials or examples for beginers?

Written by Aaron Clinger on December 18th, 2009

Hi flashmad, the documentation does contain examples for every class, but there aren’t a lot of tutorials besides what’s on the blog.
